The Hyundai i30 N was commonly sold on
Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) and
Hire Purchase (HP) finance agreements during the Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) investigation period, which began on 6 April 2007 and concluded on 1 November 2024. This investigation uncovered widespread mis-selling of motor finance products in the UK, affecting millions of consumers who bought their vehicles through these financing arrangements.
How the Hyundai i30 N was Typically Financed
The Hyundai i30 N was typically financed under Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) and Hire Purchase (HP) agreements. PCP deals usually ranged from £15,000 to £30,000 over a term of 36 to 48 months. Common finance lenders for the Hyundai i30 N during this period included
Black Horse, Barclays Partner Finance,
Close Brothers Motor Finance,
MotoNovo Finance, and
Santander Consumer Finance.
Under PCP agreements, customers would make monthly payments for the majority of the contract, with a final balloon payment due at the end of the term. This final payment was often known as a "guaranteed future value" (GFV), which could be higher or lower than expected based on the vehicle's condition and market values at the time.
The FCA Motor Finance Investigation
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) launched an investigation into
discretionary commission arrangements in motor finance products. These arrangements were common practices among many lenders, where salespeople received incentives for recommending certain types of financing over others, often leading to consumers being sold more expensive or unsuitable products. As a result, millions of agreements were affected by these practices.
The FCA estimated that 12.1 million eligible agreements (FCA, March 2026) across the UK had been impacted during this period, with an average mis-selling cost per agreement amounting to £829 (FCA estimate). The total financial impact was estimated at £7.5 billion (FCA, March 2026).
How to Check Your Agreement Look for any references to "discretionary commission arrangements" or similar phrases that indicate salespeople received incentives based on the type of finance product recommended.
check if your agreement was signed between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024, which is the period covered by the FCA investigation. If you see terms like "DCA" or "Discretionary
Commission Arrangement," it's highly likely that your finance deal may have been influenced by these practices.
If you suspect that your Hyundai i30 N finance agreement was affected, you should contact the lender directly. Common lenders for this model include Black Horse, Barclays Partner Finance, Close Brothers Motor Finance, MotoNovo Finance, and Santander Consumer Finance.
Each of these companies has a dedicated complaints process to handle issues related to mis-selling. You do not need a
claims management company; instead, you can complain directly to your lender at no cost. By reaching out to the finance provider, you can explore potential remedies such as compensation or changes to your financing terms.
