Dr LLOYD-JONES’ preaching was once described as ‘logic on fire’. The reason is that right at the heart of all his preaching was the conviction that true Christianity should be ‘experimental’. This was a term used by the Puritans to describe a faith soundly based on both doctrine and a living experience of Christ. With much of today’s teaching emphasising either ‘feelings’ or ‘doctrine’, often in isolation, we need to return to this balance which was so much a part of ‘the Doctor’s’ ministry.

Nowhere is this more needed than in the teaching concerning the work of the Holy Spirit. In these sermons Dr Lloyd-Jones takes us to the centre of the Bible’s teaching on what it means to know the Spirit of Adoption in the life of the believer. This is, in the words of Joseph Hart, a faith that is both ‘known and felt’.
